Lyrics

(Chorus)
Tonight
we light
the Hanukkah candles
from left to right

Our favorite time of year is here
the Festival of Lights
We celebrate our victory
we celebrate our rights

First you take a single candle
and you start it with a spark
then you pass it all around the world
bring light unto the dark

(Chorus x2)
Tonight
we light
the Hanukkah candles
from left to right

From the left
to the right
see the candles burning bright

From the east
to the west
use just one to light the rest

All around the world
people gather on this day
A miracle has happened
so we light a candle and say

(Chorus x4)
Tonight
we light
the Hanukkah candles
from left to right

OFFICIAL GUIDELINES

NO MORE SUBMISSIONS - CONTEST IS CLOSED!

Here's the original How To video:

We want to capture people lighting a Hanukkah candle in all parts of the word. Send us your video clip, and we'll edit a selection of submissions together to make a final video. Be as creative, thoughtful, sor silly as you like. Just follow these simple guidelines to make it look great.

1. Grab a video camera.

Any point-and-shoot will do — you don't need a big budget to make a little video. Sound is not so important. Please don't use a mobile phone camera, they usually aren't so good. Then film you or friends or family doing the following:

2. Have someone offscreen pass a candle (shamash) to your right hand

It would be best if your shamash is white, but don't worry if it's not. And be creative with the way someone passes you the candle, and where you do it. For inspiration, check out this promotional video for Gmail.

Tip: If you can pass the candle at a national monument or someplace very cool, do it!

3. Light a single candle on your menorah with the shamash

On the first night of Hanukkah we face the menorah and light the candle in the rightmost place in the menorah. If you are behind your menorah and facing the camera for this video, light the LEFT candle so it looks correct on video. It is permissible to light in this fashion because we are not really lighting candles for Hanukkah, just pretending. If you don't have a menorah, don't worry, just light a single candle.

4. Pass the candle offscreen to your left

Have someone take it from you, or just end the movie when your hand goes off screen.

5. Send us the video!
